The deciphering of the ancient egyptian writing: the hieroglyphs (in spanish)
The deciphering of the hieroglyphs was the work of a french linguist called Jean François Champollion in 1822, who managed to read the "Rosetta Stone". A stone found by the napoleonic army in Egypt in 1799. Later after the british army defeated the french in Egypt, the stone was transported to London and preserved at the British Museum, where you can still see.
